I'm Jan, a newly thirtysomething mommy to three.

My children are always in a hurry. Playtime should be now, snacks and meals would be better if they were instantaneous, and trips to the park should always have happened fifteen minutes sooner. I think that's why I can see them growing before my very eyes--reaching baby milestones, learning to ride a bike, and losing their first baby teeth. It's bittersweet to watch my three girls dash to master the next thing, tick off another month of their age, and wish their birthday was today. While my girls are hurrying and racing through their childhoods, I just want to slow down time to savor the morning cuddles and the afternoon bike riding marathons.

As a lifestyle photographer for Jani Photography, I can record these fleeting childhood moments for your family. From a baby's tiny details of wrinkled feet, sleepy pursed lips, and newborn curliness to a big boy's proud feat of climbing and leaping off the BIGGEST! rock they can find, I capture kids as kids, with all the reality that goes along with it. Yes, I'll consult with you to select the best clothing options and we'll find a beautiful location that fits your family's personality, but the images will still be YOU. Your personalities, your loves, your life, preserved forever.

A typical session with Jani Photography lasts one to two hours. I'll chat with you beforehand to discuss the type of feel you want for your session and together we'll come up with the perfect location. Be sure to take a good look at my web galleries both here and on my regular (desktop or laptop) website to make sure that my style of work is a good fit for what you're wanting for you and your family. I love to play with kids, chase them around a little, and capture natural interactions and expressions. You'll see me everywhere during our session--climbing a tree or rocks to get a better shot is extremely common, as is lying in the dirt, running around in circles, and generally acting like a goofball. Luckily, my subjects tend to find all of these antics intersting and usually hilarious, and it all works out for beautiful portraits of your little ones and you.

After the session, I post a sneak-peek on the blog, Impressions from Jani, within 48 hours. I'll having your completed images ready to view in 10-4 days, at which time I'll give you a call to schedule your ordering appointment. Two days before the appointment I'll launch your online gallery so you have a chance to look over your proofs and start narrowing down which ones (all of them!) you can't live without. At the ordering appointment, I'll show you my gorgeous product samples and your printed proofs and we'll place your order.

By now you're probably thinking, "What's the bottom line?" I want your family to have beautiful images to cherish, to display in your home, and to give as gifts to your loved ones. Twenty years from now, I also want you to be able to open an album or a keepsake image box and really see your child as they are today. With this in mind, most Jani Photography clients plan to spend between $700 to $1000 on the full portrait experience.

There is no session fee for a the Jani Photography portrait experience. Instead, I collect a $150 non-refundable retainer to schedule your session and hold your selected date. This is applied in full to your order of digital images, beautiful art prints, or custom products. Digital image collections, which include both a selection of images from your session on CD and a custom keepsake album or image box, are available starting at $400. We also offer traditional print portrait collections at the same price point with beautiful options for home display of your images.
