a lovely evening in Three Rivers, visalia family photography

Monday, August 1st, 2011

I had the pleasure of working with this lovely family last summer when they were all together and was thrilled when they hired me again this summer to record some of their family time. Haven’t these girls grown? They were just as adorable this summer as last, and the change in location to a spot up the canyon in Three Rivers was just lovely. I see many more sessions at this gorgeous location in my future!

a break in the heat for family portraits, visalia family photography

This session was an absolute ball to shoot and I am so enjoying all the edits! This sweet family lucked out in scheduling with me during the nice wave of cool weather we’ve been enjoying lately here in Visalia–highs in the 80s? Yes, please! Combine the cooler temps with a first thing in the morning session to accommodate a toddler schedule (sunset is typically a no-go with little ones this age) and we really had a perfect session, weather-wise.

Then we got to add this gorgeous family and adorable not-quite-two-year-old who is just so full of spunk–her little personality was a hoot! I can’t help but smile and laugh to myself as I’ve been going through all the images. Such a little joy.

And would you believe that mom is only four weeks away from giving birth to baby #2? Doesn’t she look fantastic? Little Miss E playing peekaboo around mommy’s belly was just adorable–her expressions just kill me.

This family portrait would be fantastic as a huge gallery wrap canvas–can’t you just see it hanging above their fireplace?

As you’ve probably noticed from the blog, I am primarily a color photographer. I love capturing all the vibrancy of childhood and family life, but with each session I always find just a few images that tug at my heart and beg for a black and white treatment. Isn’t she just the sweetest thing in this?

And, saving the best for last, the image on the right below is my absolute favorite from the whole session. Mom’s goal before the shoot was to capture their family as it is now, just before they become a family of four. With the mom and dad’s adoring expressions, gazing down at their little one and Miss E’s cute little glance up at the two people in the center of her world, I was totally smitten with this image. This is their family today. Perfect.

A quick housekeeping note–mini-sessions in August and September are filling up fast. Don’t miss out on this fantastic deal!

sweet session in the heat, visalia child photography

I’ve known Bee of Moddy Bee for the last few years. Her youngest daughter and my middle one have been in preschool together, so we’ve chatted over drop off and field trips and had the occasional girls’ night out. This session was a complete treat for me, in spite of the fact that we met up at 7pm on the hottest day of the year this far! Let me tell you, she looked waaay better by the end of the portrait session than I did–I think I walked through more sticker bushes and crawled around on the ground more during this session than I have in months. It was all worth it, though–check out the results!

sweetest little girlies, visalia newborn photographer

Goodness, what a treat these little dolls were! Since they were already seven weeks old, I was quite concerned that these adorable little twins would not be very easy to photograph. Older newborns are notoriously difficult–most seem to “wake up” around two weeks and refuse to curl, sleep, or stay posed for any length of time. And with two babies to settle and soothe, we really had our work cut out for us. Happily, these girls gave us a lovely combination of wide awake and sleeping time with beautiful results. Enjoy!

This session really needs few words, as I’ll let the images speak for themselves. Adorable kids, loving parents, gorgeous light–what more can a photographer ask for? I’m having a super hard time narrowing these images down–I have a feeling I’ll be doing another blog post on this session alone, as I have so many favorites. Enjoy!
