Formerly Photography by Janiece of Spokane, Washington, and Elko, Nevada, Jani Photography is the new name for the same gorgeous, colorful, and lively portrait photography I've been producing for the past few years. I love to photograph babies discovering their toes and grinning gummy smiles, children playing and laughing, families loving one another. My semi-candid photography style is a blend of editorial and photojournalistic portraits designed to highlight you and your family's favorite places, pastimes, and personalities. So if you have a take-a-photo-a-day project going on that you’re faithfully photographing for every day, does it still exist if you don’t share the images anywhere online?
Hmmmmm, let me think about this . . . .
What’s that? The idea of a busy mom-to-three sitting down and uploading at least one image every day online is preposterous and a mother with such an intention should not be help accountable?
I completely agree.
So I’ll keep plugging away with my images at home, since I’m finding so.much.joy in photographing the minutia of every day. I promise I’ll share. I will.
I just don’t want to be accountable for every day.

21/365, RSV is not fun, baby photography visalia
Posted on January 26, 2010
I think probably every mother on the planet can attest to the above statement.
First you take a sweet, loving, but completely helpless little being who cannot voice how they’re feeling or what is going on in their tiny body. Add a pitiful little body-wracking cough, a drippy nose constantly in need of wiping, and sleepy, tired eyes. You get an illness that cannot be treated by antibiotics, the wonder of modern medicine.
Thankfully it has been passing. When she realized she could breathe through her nose again yesterday, she spent hours snuffling and snorting, delighted in her freshly cleared nasal passages. It’s sort of like having a diaper-wearing puppy in the house. Delightful.

20/365, shoes between the rain storms, visalia photography

Goodness, wasn’t the rain glorious last week. (Glorious for the farmers and agriculturalists who needed it. Glorious for the snowpack and drought conditions. Glorious for the coming spring. Glorious for the mothers of small children who were forced to stay inside all week . . . well, perhaps not.)
Perhaps instead of new shoes for both big girls I should have gotten new rainboots.
I’ll probably buy those this summer in the blazing heat, instead. Why be practical?

18 & 19/365, trying to catch up, visalia family photography

I’m so behind. These images were taken last week. My goal is to get everything I’ve got on deck prepped and posted TODAY! Or tomorrow at the latest. Thursday, perhaps . . .
Dominoes, anyone? These girls worked me over! Don’t let those puppy eyes in the middle photos fool you–they schooled their mommy proper and celebrated their victories. Stinkers, don’t they know they’re supposed to let me win? I grew them, I gave birth. Surely I deserve something.
Nope, nothing. Gleeful celebrations. Ah, well, as long as they had fun.
As for this other image, it shows one of my very favorite things about our home in a very, very poorly executed way. We won’t talk about this image’s faults (and oh, are there faults!). I love this counter they’re sitting at. As I cook or clean or bake (yes, I bake occasionally) they can sit and chat and enjoy themselves. So fun for us all.

What do you do when it rains for days with no sun in sight? Make your own rainbows, of course!

I have a little confession to make. I didn’t take these pictures.
Shocking, I know! I think I could have made this happen with the self-timer. Meter the shot, adjust settings, place camera just right for the funky, playful tilt, set timer, leap into position, and pile on three small adorable children. It could have TOTALLY worked. Right?
Or not. Thanks, sweetie!

Love my little doll baby.
Sweetie, embrace the rolls. You are adorable and delicious and everyone who sees you wants to pinch those cheeks and nibble your fingers and tickle that adorable belly. More teeth will be here in time, so keep feeling for them, and keep practicing kisses! *mwah!*

See that thing on her head? Her bonnet/hat thing? Yeah, that’s a baby-doll nightgown that I made for Christmas 3 years ago.
Not a hat/bonnet thing.
But doesn’t it look cute on her? Poor girl, she was starting to get sick on the day these were taken, which is why they’re a week late. But she’s better now and back to normal.

Have you ever met a person who looks exactly like their dog? You know, with shaggy hair or sleek build or the same facial expressions? (yes, dogs have facial expressions, I’m not crazy!)
This is not one of those cases since 1) this is a plastic inflatable penguin and 2) it’s a toy, not a pet. Clearly. But do you see the resemblance? Please tell me I’m not the only one!
She’s really loving this little guy. Not enough to actually crawl across the room to play with him, but you can clearly see the love.

12/365, kids need a pet, visalia child photographer
Posted on January 15, 2010
My three year old daughter has quite an imagination. A few weeks ago, she found an unused pink grograin ribbon belt from a skirt of hers. Though she really could benefit from the typical use of a belt, Miss Creativity instead decided that this simple pink belt would make the perfect lease. “Mommy, I’m going to take this with me when we go to the store, so if I see a doggie and he doesn’t have an owner, I can put this around him and he’ll be my pet.”
Alas, there were no stray doggies in the Target parking lot that day.
But she and her sisters are undetered!
Of course, when the pink grograin ribbon belt is attached to a pink satin hair ribbon, it is much easier to drag your pet around the house. She’s got a live one!
